Bells Corners is slated to get a Community Improvement Plan. The name is somewhat misleading as it is actually a mechanism for the city to provide tax dollars to businesses as an incentive to get them to move to Bells Corners. It does not provide funding for any much needed community improvements or infrastructure, such as sidewalks and bike lanes. The hope is to attract an anchor tenant who will in turn attract additional businesses to the area, much as Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) did in Westboro.
Entrance Pool at 2 Eaton Street opened for the season yesterday. Dusty's Farm Market at 2405 Robertson Road is to re-open for the season later this week on June 19. Veggie Trail Farms at 3229 Richmond Road is already open. Shouldice Farms at 3451 Richmond Road will likely follow as soon as their strawberries ripen enough to pick. Shouldice Farms, Veggie Trail Farms, and their newly opened Acres House Bed and Breakfast may face an uncertain future however. The city would like to take over all of the NCC Greenbelt lands east of the 416 and north of Richmond Road to construct rail yards and parking lots to facilitate the western expansion of the LRT. Watch for more news on this in the near future.
