Today Google decided to break many of our links. One of the "features" of Google+ prior to today was the ability to link to a business in such a way that it showed some basic information about the business (address, telephone number, hours of business, etc.), a preview of any reviews of the business with a link to read or add more, and a map showing its location. It was the perfect expansion of the business listings on the visitors' guide web site. Today it all broke. Indications at this point are that it's not coming back. For now a note has been added to the top of each affected page, but by morning the process of removing all of these links will begin. As of now there is no replacement. Trip Advisor, Urban Spoon, and Yelp links will remain for restaurants and hotels that have reviews on those sites. For all other establishments, we only hope that they have their own web sites to which we can link. Unfortunately, many do not.
Update (05/05/2015): It has been determined that Google did "retire" the Google+ Local feature as of yesterday. There is no replacement readily available for it. So, reluctantly, all of the Google+ links were removed from the site this morning. Our apologies for the inconvenience but this was beyond our control. Thanks Google.
