There are a few events coming up this month listed on our Events page, including Shakespeare in the Park, the West End Food Truck Rally, and the 6th Annual Kiwanis Charity Car Show. Of course this is also back-to-school season, and the one event no one really wants to think about this far in advance, the upcoming October 19 federal election. With the redistribution of seats, our incumbent MP is running in the Carleton riding. So here in the new Nepean riding we will have a new MP representing us this fall no matter what the outcome. Candidates and their websites are listed on our Elected Officials page.
As usual, businesses in Bells Corners continue to come and go. The last video store in the neighbourhood, Videoflicks, has closed. Local Heroes has gone but the owners are planning a new bar and grill almost directly across the street. The Bells Corners Pharmacy has changed hands. The Nepean Optometric Clinic has moved to new premises. TKK Automotive and J.T.'s Fries have opened in the old Bells Corners Shell location. The Epoch Times has moved in to one of the old Viceroy homes. A fireplace store is going in to the old Timmies. There's even a rumour that Pizza Hut is coming back but in a new location. The promised fitness facility in the old Chevy West premises seems unlikely to materialize though.
Local blogger Craig Macaulay, aka Ottawa Owl (le hibou) is back actively writing bellcorners - Bells Corners community news/views, the only other open website dedicated to whats happening, mostly politics wise, in Bells Corners. If your want to know what the Bells Corners Business Improvement Area is up to you can follow them on Twitter. I'm sure they'd appreciate it.
